WHY THIS SITE EXISTS
Most people are far more capable than they realise. They just don't know how to show it.
I've spent more than 30 years working across recruitment and employability, first as a recruitment consultant and, since 1997, as the founder and CEO of Step Ahead.
Through that work, I've seen what helps people secure opportunities and what so often holds capable people back.
Most of the time, it isn't a lack of talent or potential. It's not understanding how employers make decisions, how to present your value or what to do differently when your approach isn't working.
That knowledge is often taken for granted by people on the hiring side, but it is rarely explained clearly to the people who need it most.
This site is where I share what I've learnt.
Because I believe everyone deserves the opportunity to do work they love. And I believe the right insight and support can change the direction of a career and everything that follows.

I founded Step Ahead in 1997 with a simple belief: when the right person finds the right opportunity, everybody wins. Individuals thrive, organisations flourish and communities become stronger. I've seen that happen thousands of times and it never gets old.
As well as leading Step Ahead, I've had the privilege of supporting my three sons as they've each built careers in very different fields. It's reminded me that every career journey is unique, but one thing never changes: the right support at the right time can make all the difference.
That's why I'm passionate about helping more people recognise their potential, understand how hiring really works and build careers they genuinely enjoy.
